Character: Poe Dameron
Age: 32
Canon: Star Wars
Canon Point: Right after the victory of Starkiller base.
Background:
The history of a pilot.
Personality:
Poe is brave, passionate, rash, and friendly. He's the kind of guy who can fly anything; he has really great piloting skills that were taught by his mother. Those days were the best years that he remembers, because he was surrounded by love and not hate. The love would help him show compassion towards others, as well as showing humanity. He helped his father with work, which is a start of being able to take on a task and finishing it. The man learned a lot from his dad. Commitment was just one of those things.
His father said to him that, "once you commit to something, you stay committed." Poe does exactly that on missions, and he doesn’t let that commitment falter in any kind of way. A negative side of this, is that he'll grow impatient if he can't get it done quick enough. Regardless, there’s determination toward finishing the task no matter what.
If you want anything completed, you want to give it to the person you trust most. Poe just happens to be that person General Leia Organa trusted most to find the map that would lead to her brother. She knew that he would be able to complete it; there would be no other person to trust it to in fear of it getting to the wrong hands. The pilot has a great respect for General Organa and trusts her judgement. It's because of that, Poe would try anything to get it to the right ones. This is shown through him giving the piece of the map to his astromech. Poe tells the droid to run, knowing that it has a better chance at survival.
At the time, he knew that he was in a lot of danger and he could very well end up dead... yet the completion of his mission meant everything to him.
There is not a lot that he fears, but what he does fear, is a gray cloud showing up again. An empire or organization that kills and destroys planets and moons - something that his parents fought to keep at bay, hoping to bring in the light for their next generation. When the light starts vanishing, that’s when he realizes what that fear truly meant; it was a fear that he didn't want to encounter at all. This is something that he believes that no one should have to face. That's why it's a fear that he will bravely face, head-on, for the sake of stopping it.
Poe finds out what he's truly fighting for when he sees a new threat approaching, and that new threat couldn’t continue. After he learned what was behind it all, he couldn’t just sit on his hands and do nothing about it. He went so far as to dismiss orders to do nothing but watch and patrol. Once the threat became even bigger, he decides to go looking for trouble when. There was a growing distrust in an organization that shouldn't have been running away - that shouldn't have been doing nothing about it. No one wanted to listen to his reasonings, yet Poe couldn’t let it go. He decided to go alone, not wanting the other members on his squad to throw away their careers. This shows that he cares for others and is willing to take on that risk himself.
He doesn’t let others down, because that's not how he does things. He's the kind of guy who fights alongside those that don’t even know how. On Jakku, with a village in Tuanul being under attacked, he picked up a blaster instead of running. He started helping them in their fight against the First Order. He couldn’t just run away and leave them to his enemy. He'll never give up. Even if there’s no other choice but death, he'll still take risks There are many rash decision makings on his end that could have end up with dire consequences, but those are the decisions that make for great stories when victory is involved...
Perhaps it's because he's not the type to fear much, but Poe is not afraid of the First Order at all. The only moment of weakness he shows, is when rage fills him. That moment was upon seeing an old man in stories and legends about to come to his end. His takes quick action knowing that he gave himself away to the enemy to try to fire a shot at someone he clearly shouldn't have. It was too late to do any change to his actions right then... but, even after getting captured by the First Order, he keeps a bold demeanor, not showing fear. The line “who talks first” is only his way in saying that he isn’t intimidated by Kylo Ren; he even tells Kylo Ren that during his interrogation. Being beaten continuously as well as being mind probed for information is when Poe really accepts that he's going to die.
He had lost hope knowing that he didn't have anything else to give.
While under pressure, he shows no panic - only concentration on his task. Poe can stay calm when it’s needed. When he is still playing the role of prisoner to make an escape, he dared to smile and have fun. As he walked the bay under the act with many eyes around, he didn’t lose that calmness. Most people would get nervous and run in a panic, but not him. He was too busy trying to not run for the TIE starfighter in front of him, out of pure excitement of getting off the Finalizer.
Poe can lighten any mood with well placed advice, or simply by offering a smile. He is very friendly, and he almost always puts others before him. This can be viewed as a weakness, since it's something that could get used against him. That is, if he's not careful. Like most lighthearted people, he's not always serious or calm (there is a good amount of snark showing that. He seems to be very personable with giving hugs and swinging his arm around other’s shoulders. He treats FN-2187 as if he is like any other person, not just a stormtrooper; Poe sees him as another comrade at arms. There's something about the other that he could trust, and his instincts have clearly never let him down. Within minutes of meeting the guy, he gives him a name. He calls him Finn because he refuses to call him a number, or whatever the First Order called him. There's even a simple question asked, of whether, or not, the other likes the name before continuing to use it.
Abilities:
Poe trusts everything that he does, including his piloting skills. There’s great concentration when he is flying everything shown. Not much can really distract him... Like most human beings, however, he can get caught off guard if he's not seeing something in time. He can focus on flying around while speaking, and he manages this even while trying to help Finn in looking out for enemies. Poe is the "greatest pilot of the Resistance" and he will make sure others know that.
He can work very well with others and he knows how to command a team.
In conclusion, since he can fly pretty much anything, his major skills would be piloting and engineering. Because of this, there might be some other skills of being able to help build things. He seems to have a good shot with a blaster when it comes to weapon combat skills, and he likely has some experience in hand-to-hand combat.
Poe knows binary (android speech), and doesn't need any help of a screen translator when it comes to droids.
Alignment:
Thras. Poe fears that the hope that his parents fought for could vanish if something doesn’t get done about it. He is brave though to continue the fight to keep the hope from completely disappearing. There are risks worth taking.
